Monday, October 2 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. CUTTEN HALL: Second floor lounge ARTIST'S TALK AND SCULPTURE UNVEILING: Christy Rupp '74 Sculptor and Colgate alumna Christy Rupp '74 will return to campus for an informal discussion of her recently conserved Hire Intelligence (1983). This mixed media work showing black bears climbing a group of filing cabinets in search of secrets addresses cold war relations between the CIA and KGB. Following an eight-month intensive conservation (assisted by Picker interns Phil O'Connor '07 and Gordon Higgins '06), this campus favorite, formerly displayed on the Picker's outdoor Sculpture Court, has been relocated to a new interior space in Cutten Hall, whose student residents assisted in selecting and renovating the site. A display nearby shows photographs of the conservation in progress and includes a selection of the dozens of stencils use to create the texture of the bears' fur. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Picker Art Gallery Sculptor Christy Rupp '74 Discusses Hire Intelligence (1983) with Curator Diane Butler October 2, 2006 |
