SCHUPF SENIOR ART PRIZE
On May 9, 2007, the Picker Art
Gallery awarded the Schupf Senior Art Prize for 2007 to Adam Hermans,
Class of 2007, for his film, In Wildness is the preservation of the world.
The new annual prize, created through the generosity of major Colgate donor and
noted art collector Paul J. Schupf, Class of 1958, is awarded to a graduating
student for an outstanding work of art selected by the director of the Picker
Art Gallery and the prize donor. (In future years, the curator of Modern and
contemporary art at the Museum-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute Museum of Art
will also serve as a juror.) The selected work enters the Schupf Senior Art
Prize Collection of the Picker Art Gallery. Either one prize, with an award of
$500, or two prizes, with awards of $250 each, is awarded annually. Mr. Hermans
received the only prize awarded in 2007.
The winning film, In Wildness is the preservation of the world, remains
on view in the Picker Art Gallery through July 13th. A prestigious
Thomas J. Watson
fellowship will enable Mr. Hermans to continue his documentary film work in
Asia and Africa next year.
