Braidings and Benches:
The Oneida Community
and the Arts and Crafts Movement

Guest Curator: Helen Schwartz, Oneida Mansion House.

The Arts and Crafts movement provided an aesthetic for the descendants of the Oneida Community. Both shared a belief that the structure and environment of daily life should embody a community's ideals, a dedication to meaningful and fulfilling work, and an appreciation of work done well. This exhibition highlights the braidings of Jessie Catherine Kinsley, a daughter of the Oneida Community, with the Arts and Crafts paintings, furniture, and decorative arts created and collected by other descendants.
