Illuminating a 13th-Century Missal:
A Newly-Acquired French Manuscript Leaf

Creating a manuscript in the Middle Ages involved many hands, including those of parchmenters, scribes, illuminators, gilders, and bookbinders. This exhibition explores the fascinating process of manuscript production as it relates to a single leaf (or page) from the Beauvais Missal (a book containing the annual service of the mass), a recent gift to the Picker Art Gallery from Lyle M. Ramshaw and Betty N. Murphy in memory of Warren and Molly Ramshaw. The exhibition was curated by Emily Orr, Class of 2006, and Katie Stokien, Class of 2009.
