April 13 - August 12, 2007 MAIN GALLERY Palimpsest: Noongar Art Past and Present This exhibition explores the changing meanings of landscape, identity, art, and culture for the Noongar people of Western Australia. It features a selection of the celebrated Australian Aboriginal children's pastels made at the Carrolup River Native Settlement in the 1940s the subject of international media attention when they were rediscovered in the Picker's collection in 2005 alongside contemporary Noongar paintings, fashion designs created by young Noongar women in nearby Katanning, Western Australia, and photographs taken in 2006 by the exhibition's student curator, Alumni Memorial Scholar Rebecca Brereton, Class of 2007. |
