Albert Wong: Trompe l'oeils

Albert Wong is an artist and graphic designer who in his watercolors and drawings perfected the art of the trompe l’œil. His works create stunning visual illusions, tricking the eye into believing the physical presence of “humble” materials such as crumbled or folded paper, twigs, leaves, etc. Upon close inspection these objects reveal complex meanings, alluding to the artist’s Chinese heritage, his life as a Chinese American, and his family memories, as well as to far reaching religious concepts and political conflicts. Wong is currently teaching at the University of Texas at El Paso.
